Markem-Imaje offers an innovative solution for marking yogurts and stick packs

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

With the 7031HD, its latest CO2 laser coder, Markem-Imaje – a specialist in industrial printing and marking – now offers manufacturers a solution for multiple-dot marking of yoghurt films or “stick” packs.

Yoghurt films, stick packs (coffee, sugar, etc.) and sleeves (ice-cream, etc.) need to be marked with multiple dots while stationary. For sticks, it may also be necessary to simultaneously perform pre-cutting to facilitate opening. The 7031HD coder offers specific qualities for marking these products, as Stéphane Valette, Laser Product Manager at Markem-Imaje briefly explains: “The higher energy density of the 7031HD laser coder offers optimum print quality and excellent contrast over a wide coding area of up to 415 mm x 415 mm, depending on the lens selected. Output rates can be as high as 800 products per minute. For example, 24 seals can be coded in less than a second!”

An optimized solution

A single printhead covers a very wide coding area (up to 415 mm). In combination with Markem-Imaje CoLOS software, messages can be easily positioned, either vertically or horizontally, thereby reducing adjustment time. CoLOS software allows control of several laser heads thus resulting in an increase of the marking area (up to 830 mm with two heads).

An available and reliable solution

With no moving parts, the 7031HD laser coder is an alternative to mechanical marking and pre-cutting systems: no wearing of parts, no mechanical adjustment.

The new 30 watt version also benefits from the specific features of the 7000 Series, for example:

  • An innovative modular design composed of 3 modules (controller, cable and laser head) for optimum integration on production lines.
  • An intuitive user interface with a color touch screen for practical navigation and very easy control.
  • An optimized laser head cooling system that operates without plant air or water.

Other characteristics

  • Broad choice of lenses
  • Extremely compact, robust laser head with 90° laser beam orientation
  • Ultra-flexible connecting cable (6 or 9 meters)
  • Easy access to safety features, like the emergency stop button
  • Eth ernet and USB port for easy message loading
  • cULus and GS labels
  • IP65 protection
  • Dust and gas extractors. Cooling option avoiding the need to connect the coder to plant air.

Markem-Imaje launches a new applicator to apply a single label on adjacent faces of a moving case

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Ideal for moving cases, the new corner wrap applicator launched by Markem-Imaje enables to apply a label on the front and side, or the front and top, of outer case packages and boxes. This new applicator has been designed to complement the existing applicator range available with the 2000 Series print and apply systems.

The new Markem-Imaje corner wrap applicator enables more label data on a single large label or the same data visible from two sides of the box. It is a perfect choice to meet the demands of retailers and supermarkets who insist on having a single label across the two faces of trays and boxes to be visible.

The new corner wrap applicator is also recommended for cases or products that demand higher volumes of data, such as ingredients lists or language variants, on the same label. It is capable of applying a range of label sizes from 200 to 400 mm long. “With this new applicator, we now offer our customers a simple solution that can be easily integrated onto our 2000 Series systems and that meet customers’ needs in terms of performance, functionality and simplicity,” states Yves Maestrini, 2000 Series marketing product manager at Markem-Imaje.

Assets

  • High speed, capable of applying a 200mm label around the corner of a case at 30 products per minute.
  • Label application range: between 50 and 120 mm high and 200 and 400 mm long.
  • Robust industrial design to provide high levels of reliability and applicator extended life.
  • Few moving or serviceable parts, for simplicity of maintenance and reduced potential downtime.
  • Label present detector to ensure that the label is correctly fed and applied.

  • Non stick pad surface for simple cleaning and continued operation.
  • Low resistance of applicator provides support for low weight cases.

Compliance and Safety

The corner wrap applicator has been designed and tested to comply with all current safety standards. It is completely in line with the Series 2000 Series and other applicators (tamp, blow and air blow).
